Okay, let’s be realistic here.  Everyone tries the latest diets only to find themselves putting the weight back on after a year or so.  In order to keep the weight off you must change how much you eat on a daily basis.  You must take in fewer calories then you burn.  That is just the way it works.

I am sure you have seen that slim person and wish you could be his or her size.  Believe me they do not just eat whatever they want when they want.  If they do, it is because they are young and very active in sports and other interest. 

I have been at the same weight pretty much all my adult life, give or take a few pounds.  I am now in my fifties, 5’6″ and 125 pounds. So I know this method works.  The reason I have been able to achieve this is because I watch how much I eat.  Not necessarily what I eat (because I love breads, pastas, sweets, etc…), but how much I eat.

You still have to have some discipline in order for this to work.  But then again you have to have discipline in order for any thing to work.  If you do not, you will never lose weight and keep it off.  

I challenge you to try this method for two weeks and see if you lose weight.  If you do, then you must get your mind set and understand that this is the way you will be eating the rest of your life.  Successful weight loss is something that comes from your state of mind.  If you understand what you have to do to succeed, then your body will show great results.

I’m not saying this process will work for everyone, but it sure beats depriving yourself of some of the foods you love.

Okay, let’s get started:

First go to myfitnesspal.com and download the app.  This will help you keep up with your calorie count throughout the day. Find out how many calories you are now eating and start slowly decreasing it each day, until you get the calorie amount you can have in order to maintain your goal weight.  (NOTE: Do not go under 1200 calories a day, for this is not healthy).   Once you know what you can and cannot eat at restaurant’s and fast food places, you will not have to do this app everyday. I have heard people tell me they cannot lose weight because they eat out a lot and fast food just puts the pounds on them.  I am a working woman, I also eat out quite a bit.  I have not found this to be the case.  Most fast food restaurant’s have a variety of foods to choose from, you just need to make better choices.   When you cook at home, type your food item into your fitness pal app, and it will tell you the calories.  I always add a few extra calories when I am cooking at home, because the app does not know exactly what ingredients you are using.  If you have the time, you can enter each ingredient you are using in your fitness pal app to find this out and then just save it.   

Breakfast:  I am not a big breakfast eater so usually I just have a breakfast bar of some kind that usually ranges from 140 to 200 calories.

Lunch:  A grilled chicken sandwich  with mustard and cheese only, (Braum’s has a really good one and so does Wendy’s) a small order of fries and a calorie free drink. I keep small pieces of candy around to curb my sweet tooth. So after lunch I will usually have a Hershey’s kiss.  

Another great way to curb your sweet tooth, is hot chocolate.  Carnation makes a really creaming, fat free, hot chocolate with only 20 calories per pouch.  Have a cup after a meal and this will help fill you up and satisfy your sweet tooth.

Other lunch items you can choose from consist of either one hot dog with relish and mustard only and then a small side of chips or two hot dogs and no chips. Again you can have a small piece of candy and/or hot chocolate. Another good item for lunch is a turkey burger. Or you may want a really juicy burger from Braum’s or another fast food.  If this is the case you may need to cut the burger in half and save the other half for dinner or share with someone. Check the calories to see.

You do not have to use the items I told you about, but you need to find some type of lunch item that works for you.  If you pack your lunch everyday, figure out what those calories are, so you know how much you can eat for dinner that night without going over your calorie count. 

Dinner: If you are making dinner for your family every evening you cannot get second helpings ever!!!  Make sure you keep your portion sizes small.

Desserts: On my blog under recipes you will find a sugar-free chocolate pie recipe and I also have a pudding cake recipe that you can make and instead of using regular cake mix and pudding, use sugar-free cake mix and sugar-free pudding.  This way you get dessert without all the calories.

Once you have finished eating if you are still feeling a little hungry, pick up your phone or ipad and scroll through your Facebook or play a game on your phone or ipad.  Do something to get your mind off of food until your brain has time to catch up and realize you are full.

A lot of times people will eat out of boredom.  This is a good time to once again play a game on your ipad or phone.  

If you do go over your calories for the day walk around the block or turn some music on and dance or exercise to it.  I have a trend mill so I usually walk on my trend mill for 10 to 15 minutes.

If you follow these ideas and cut your calories down you will definitely lose weight.  Good luck and let me know if this worked for you. #losing weight is easier than you think
