Christmas Cookies Candy Cane
3/4 cup of oleo
1/2 cup of sugar
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/4 cups of flour
1/4 teaspoon of salt
red food coloring
Heat oven to 375, cream shortening and sugar, add egg & vanilla. Mix in flour and salt. Divide dough in half. Blend red food coloring in one half.
Roll 1 teaspoon of red dough and 1 teaspoon of regular dough. Place the strips side by side and press lightly together, then twist. Bake on cookie sheet for 9 minutes or until lightly brown. Mix together 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of crushed peppermint mix together and sprinkle on warm cookies.
The meaning of the candy cane:
Hard Candy – Remind us that Jesus is like a “Rock”, strong and dependable
Peppermint Flavor – Is like the gift of spices from the wise men
White Candy – Stands for Jesus as the holy, sinless Son of God

Cane- Is like a staff used by shepherds in caring for sheep
Jesus is our “Good Shepherd”
The letter J- Is for the name of Jesus, our Savior
The Color Red – Is for God’s love that sent Jesus, and Jesus’ love in giving his life for us on the cross

The Stripes – Remind us of Jesus’ suffering – His crown of thorns, the wounds in is hands and feet, and the cross on which he died.
